How Our Values Shine Through, No Matter the Political Climate

Keeping Our Mission Front and Center During B Corp Month and Beyond

At Solaris Energy, we are continuing to respond to the instability of the current political reality in the United States and what it means for the solar industry, our communities, and our planet. Several of our recent articles share how we are remaining rooted in our vision to transition to 100% renewable, affordable energy for all by leaning into trusted partnerships, our team’s expertise, and smart solar financing models. No matter the purported headwinds, we remain firm in our beliefs that climate change is an existential threat to the global community and all people deserve access to affordable, clean energy and all the benefits it brings, including cleaner air, cleaner water, cleaner food, plus economic growth. Solaris aligns these beliefs within all of our work.

“Our mission-based commitment to building a more sustainable world does not waver. In fact, it helps us refine our decision-making, especially as we navigate uncertainty,” confirms Nick Perugini, Solaris Energy CEO. “We continue to turn quality projects into investments benefitting communities and organizations for decades to come by reducing their energy costs.”

How do we manage to keep our business and the organizations we work with aligned with this overarching vision? Solaris Energy is proud to be a Certified B Corporation and a Colorado Public Benefit Corporation. This means we have been audited by a third party for high standards of social and environmental practices and have made the legal decision to always make business decisions that benefit the public as well as our profits.

“B Corp is all about taking care of things,” says Alex Blackmer, Solaris Energy President. “It’s about taking care of who you work with, who you work for, and taking care of this precious, one and only planet that we all share.”

March is B Corp Month, a time every year when B Corps like ours share how we do business differently and shift the economic definition of “success” to include more than profits alone. Being a Certified B Corporation means making a measurable social and environmental impact, showing how we put our values into practice, and sharing how we strive for continual progress.

At Solaris Energy, our vision is a transition to 100% renewable, affordable energy for all.

“Solaris has never been a profits-first company,” Perugini says. “We maintain a triple-bottom-line approach, where our business success is tied directly to our ability to accelerate the widespread deployment of distributed solar energy and battery storage systems by offering our customers low-cost financing to reduce their environmental impact, increase their bottom line, and participate in the worldwide shift to renewable energy.”

We bring our values to life in many ways, going well beyond our mission’s focus on access to renewable energy and addressing climate change. Our business ties positive impact to financial success by how we conduct our operations, treat our employees and community members, and select our partners and projects. For example, Solaris Energy has been a proud corporate sustainability partner of Colorado State University’s College of Business and the Impact MBA and supports several nonprofit industry organizations through membership. Several of our team members have also held volunteer Board positions for industry support organizations, including the Colorado Solar & Storage Association (COSSA), and we have volunteered as both a team and as individuals in our local communities, sharing our love and energy with food banks and other nonprofit organizations.

We look to serve organizations that serve their communities — and that would otherwise be unlikely to transition to solar energy — as our clients. With our developer and financial relations, we look for end users who can most benefit from the cost savings of renewable energy and who wouldn’t be served by traditional institutions and models. We have served more than 42 community-service organizations, and we seek to continue growing that number over time.

Our core mission remains successful projects, which we are honored to work on with aligned investors, partners, and clients. With every project we develop, our clients are saving money on energy and re-investing that money into their communities and improving our environment — from community solar projects in the Northeast, to a school district in California, to a series of agrovoltaics projects and more.

“As Solaris Energy continues to evolve, our values-based approach to decision-making acts as our compass, helping us accomplish our mission creating positive impact alongside business growth.” Perugini says. “We don’t separate our financial and social impact success; for us, both are built into our model to grow hand-in-hand. This commitment continues to serve us well, despite the political weather, keeping us focused on what really matters during headwinds of change because the journey is just as important as the destination.”
